WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Wichita Fire Department said several storage units were damaged in a fire. The fire started around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in the 7000 block of West Shade Lane, near Central and Ridge.
Arriving fire crews found several storage units on fire and heavy smoke pouring out. Firefighters had to open several units.
“Around 30 or more units that were affected somehow or another from either direct contact from the fire or extension from the smoke and heat,” said Battalion Chief Jose Ocadiz, Wichita Fire Department.
The fire department said 10-12 trucks responded because a house and building fire were called simultaneously.
Crews are working to determine the cause of the fire. Ocadiz said that quite a few storage units had to be opened up to check for fire because of smoke showing. No injuries were reported.
