WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Fire Department (WFD) responded to a fire at an east-side multifamily home Thursday afternoon.
The fire broke out around 2:20 p.m. in the 1600 block of S. Elpyco Ave.
Upon arrival, fire and smoke were coming from the four-plex.
Captain Casey Hauschild says the building was unoccupied and boarded up.
“When crews got here, they had to deal with formidable entry problems,” Hauschild said. “Once they navigated that, we got multiple lines in place on multiple floors, found fire on multiple floors.”

No one was found inside.
“It’s been vacant for some time. Most of the buildings have either tried to be renovated or have been unoccupied for a number of years,” Hauschild said.
Hauschild says an investigation into the cause of the fire is under investigation.
