A Wichita man is searching for the owner of decades-old photos he found on the street.
“It’s like holding a memory in your hand,” said Caleb Sims.
Caleb Sims said he was walking home from a friend’s place last week when something caught his eye.
“I come across these old pictures just scattered out in the road and along the sidewalk,” he explained.
At first, Sims said he didn’t think much of the pictures until he noticed more and more of them.
“The farther I walked, the more I found and the more I found the more I realized these weren’t just one or two random pictures, there was a whole collection of pictures,” Sims said.
Some of the black and white photos have descriptions and dates on the back of them. One of the pictures is dated December 11, 1946.
Another photo has the message, ‘To mom from Bill and Pat.’ Another one has ‘Eula and Curtis’ written in cursive.
“They’re the kind of pictures that I figured can’t be replaced and somebody might miss,” Sims said. “I go to school for IT and that’s the first thing everyone wants off their devices is their pictures. They don’t want to lose those and here I have actual pictures that aren’t in digital format and these can’t be replaced or copied, especially if you don’t have the original and here’s the original.”
Sims hopes by sharing the photos he can track down the person who may have lost them.
“I know how my grandmother would feel if these were any of her pictures,” he said. “Hopefully, these will get back to the family that they belong to and whoever is missing them doesn’t end up missing them.”
