Wichita to say goodbye to Lawrence-Dumont Stadium at farewell event on Saturday

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Wichita is saying goodbye to Lawrence-Dumont Stadium this Saturday.

Wichita Park and Recreation is hosting a farewell event at 300 S. Sycamore St. It will be the final event held prior to the beginning of demolition which is slated for later this fall. 

The event will include a chair sale that will begin at 9:00 a.m. and last until noon. The sales are cash only. Blue seats, tan/blue seats and red seats will be available for sale for $35, $20 and $5 respectively. 

Keep in mind if you would like to purchase a chair at the stadium, you will need to bring your own tools to remove the seats. 

There will also be an exhibition game held at the complex and the doors will open for that at 2:30 p.m. The Collegiate High School Marching Band will play during the game. 

Food trucks, a bartending service and Kona Ice will be selling refreshments. 

Following the gam will be a short program of speakers as well as a performance by the local band "The Astronauts." If you are planning to attend, you are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to sit on.

“We are excited to honor Lawrence-Dumont Stadium and enjoy it one last time,” said Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell. “While we’re excited about the future of baseball in our community, we want to ensure we celebrate the vibrant part Lawrence-Dumont played in our community.”
