A Wichita woman is proving size doesn’t matter especially when it comes to indoor pets.
Bonnie Hubertus is the proud owner of Lucious the dog.
Lucious, 11, weighs about 130 pounds and stands about 5 foot 5 inches tall.
“He’s as tall as I am on his back legs when he stands up,” laughed Hubertus.
Hubertus admits Lucious’s size can be somewhat intimidating and shocking to strangers.
“A lot of people are scared of him,” she said. “He’s like a showstopper when we go to PetSmart or somewhere because you just don’t see ones like him very often.”
Even if people did, Hubertus said Lucious would still be one of a kind.
“He’s rambunctious and he’s clumsy. He knocks stuff over, knocks stuff off the table. He can reach the counter, so he’s a food stealer,” Hubertus said. “He’s just silly and he drools a lot, a lot!”
Despite his drooling and food stealing ways, Hubertus said Lucious has been a grand addition to her family.
“I love him. He’s a good boy,” she said. “He’s just a big dog that people don’t understand.”
Hubertus, who works as a professional dog groomer, adopted Lucious in 2016 after his owner moved away.
She’s been grooming the dog since he was about 9 weeks old.
She told KSN Lucious eats about 50 pounds of food a week and she’s had to buy a snow shovel to remove his waste from her yard.
