If you’re looking for something to do tomorrow, consider checking out the 3rd annual Love Your Community event.
The free community event aims to unite people and build bridges to make a “better Wichita,” according to organizers.
The event includes: a dodgeball tournament, talent show, car show, neighborhood cleanup, a resource fair and more.
Allied Health Career Training, an event sponsor, is set to giveaway scholarships to the low-cost medical school.
“It’s bringing people together for out of the box thinking, building bridges and taking down barriers to make a better community,” said Dianne Powell, with Allied Health Career.
Wichita police will also be at the event as organizers hope to break down barriers between the public and law enforcement.
Organizer Angel Martinez said it’s important to hold these types of community events if Wichita wants to have a thriving community.
“It’s important for people to feel like I belong and build that community pride so we create stakeholders,” said Martinez. “We want people to take ownership.”
Powell encourages the public to attend and take advantage of the many resources available to them. She also wants attendees to discover things have in common and ways to come together — which she believes is now more important than ever.
“So many things have been divisive lately, incredibly divisive and so sad,” she said. “That’s why I think it’s so important to swim upstream, to bring people together and build bridges.”
Love Your Community will be held tomorrow at the Evergreen Recreation Center, located at 2700 N Woodland. The parade lasts from 2-3 p.m., resource fair 3-7 p.m. and block party 3-10 p.m.
