Some Starlite fans toured the Starlite drive-in on Saturday.

Both young and old ready to make new memories when it re-opens.

“We watch the three movies, and we stay here late. We started doing this a couple of years ago, and I really like it,” said Martin Newberry.

“I just like experiencing everything about Starlite because it’s just a great place to go to,” said Grace Newberry.

“I met my girlfriend and we’ve been coming here the last two years almost every Friday night when it was open watching movies,” said Dewayne Fuller.

Owner Blake Smith expects to open the drive-in by early March. The city loaned Smith $200,000 to buy new projectors. Smith says the drive-in received more than $50,000 in pledges from the community. He says those donations are starting to trickle in. Donations that he says are a big help in repaying the city.

“It does help stabilize the business, and hopefully keep it here for long term and this doesn’t have to happen again that’s the whole idea,” said Blake Smith.

“It’s very important to me that Blake is successful, and we keep it running, and we have the community support behind us 100 percent,” said Beth Defenbaugh, Starlite Manager.

“Wichita is embracing this drive-in, it’s a wonderful piece of the past and a wonderful piece of the future,” said Councilman James Clendenin.
