If you’re out finishing your Christmas shopping this weekend, don’t be surprised if you see mounted WPD officers in the parking lot.
The Wichita Police Mounted Patrol had six horses out today at Towne East Square.
The officers are on the lookout for thieves breaking into cars.
“We have a good vantage point on top of the horses ’cause we can see way across the parking lot from here,” said Sgt. Clark Bolan, WPD Reserve. “And we don’t travel in the same spots for the same time. We mix it up so nobody can figure out a schedule and know when we’re going to be here and when we’re not going to be here.”
The police mounted unit started back in 1990. The officers will patrol Wichita’s big shopping areas through Christmas Eve.
