Man dies after being shot several times in south Wichita


WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita police are investigating a homicide in the 1200 Block of South Minneapolis. It happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night.

Police arrived and found a 31-year-old man, identified as James Walker III of Wichita, with several gunshot wounds. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital where he died of his injuries.

A 28-year-old woman received leg injuries and was also transported to the hospital.

“Several adults and young children were at the home for a get together. Several adults were outside in the front yard when three to four unknown males walked up on foot and began firing striking Mr. Walker,” said Lt. Todd Ojile, Wichita Police Department. “We believe they were targeted.”

The suspects fled on foot. Police spent several hours tracking down several people who fled the get together after the shooting.

Lt. Todd Ojile said the shooting was the 10th homicide this year in Wichita.
