Flying boulder kills elderly sisters

National / World

An Oklahoma family is forever changed after two sisters tragically lost their lives when a large boulder went through the windshield of the SUV in Pauls Valley Tuesday.

Authorities said 83-year-old Flora Perkins and her 89-year-old sister, Wanda Oliver, were killed instantly in the accident. Their niece, 66-year-old Norma Caldwell, was driving the car and was remarkably uninjured.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the basketball-sized rock weighed about 40 to 50 pounds, and fell out of a semi-truck traveling in the opposite direction.

Investigators say the crash could have been prevented if the rock was properly secured..

The driver of the semi was located Wednesday morning. OHP said he had no knowledge of the accident happening.

So far, no charges have been filed against the driver of the semi.
