WOODWARD, Okla. (AP) – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a trooper has been injured following an early-morning shootout with a suspect who has been taken into custody.
The patrol says the shooting occurred Sunday in Woodward, about 124 miles northwest of Oklahoma City.
Troopers say the shooting occurred during a routine traffic stop with a driver who initially failed to yield and then pulled into a hotel parking lot where the driver engaged the trooper in gunfire.
The driver then fled to a residence in Woodward with the trooper in pursuit and was eventually apprehended at 9:20 a.m.
The injured trooper has been airlifted to the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City but his condition was not immediately known.
Neither the trooper nor the suspect has been identified.
