MANSFIELD, OH (WCMH) – The total reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who put a lit firecracker in the rectum of a cat is now over $23,000.

The total reward of $23,435 includes $5,000 pledges from the Animal Legal Defense Fund, PETA and the Humane Society of the United States. It also includes $8,435 from the Humane Society of Richland County and local donations.

The cat, named Katy P., continues to recover after she was found last week. Veterinarians were originally unsure if she would survive and be able to pass her bowels normally.

A veterinarian working with Katy P said she was able to have a bowel movement Sunday.  Monday, the Humane Society said she has been using her litter box for the past two days.

She was scheduled to have the drain tube from her tail amputation removed Tuesday.
