It was “Lights, Camera, Action” at the Cosmosphere.

Thursday afternoon, Kansans across the state came together to wish Expedition 59 safe travels.

A Russian-American crew of three blasted off to the International Space Station, making a second attempt to reach the outpost after October’s aborted launch,.

Expedition 59 crew includes NASA astronauts, Christina Koch, Roscosmos’ Alexei Ovchinin and Kansas Native, Nick Hague.

Hague was born in Belleville and grew up in Hoxie before he was selected by NASA as an astronaut in 2013.

Visitors at the Cosmosphere spent their day wishing Hague good luck in between exhibits.

“Just want to wish the best of luck to Nick,” Hutchinson resident Nathan Meyer said. “The fact it’s a Kansas native makes it even cooler.”

“Good luck, Nick,” a group of boys said. “Have a good trip to space!”

The Cosmosphere put together a video of all the visitors that wished him well.

Community members from his hometown, Hoxie, also came together Thursday afternoon to watch his launch.

“Way to go, Nick,” the Hoxie community cheered.

Hague’s former teachers also talked about his legacy and how proud the community is of him.

“Nick was an exceptional student,” former teacher, Tom Friess said. “This just further cements his and their legacy in our community.”

“It proves that these small towns produce excellent people,” former teacher, Bette James said. “I know Nick, himself, has talked about how proud he is to be from a small town and how much it did for him.”

Live coverage will air on NASA Television and the agency’s website.
