Operation Holiday running low on donations

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – For Sherri Bartee, the holidays are a special time, but she, like so many others, is also thankful because she receives help from Inter-Faith Ministries, particularly with Operation Holiday.

“Right now, the holidays, they’re here, and I’m just thankful to be spending it with my girls and my family,” Bartee said, “It’s that much more that I don’t have to worry about, I just pray about it. Prayers do get answered, it’s truly a blessing.”

However, with just two weeks to distribution, things aren’t rolling in quite as fast as years prior. The organization has met less than a quarter of their goal and only two weeks to make it up. All of the donations are down this year, from where they were last year. Today, they have 298 men’s and boy’s coats and 354 women’s and girl’s coats out on the floor.

“Well, this time last year, just for instance, I had 3,219 male coats, I had 2,754 female coats,” said Ashley Davis, the organizer of Operation Holiday. “Two weeks in. So we’re a little bit challenged in that area.”

Davis thinks the warmer weather could face some of the blame, saying people may not be thinking about Christmas just yet, but she says she trusts the community to come forward.

“I have faith that the community will rally and that the items that we need to complete distribution will come in,” Davis said, “but it’s a little scary to think of, two weeks to go and that’s what we have in hand as of this morning.”Click here to find out how to donate to Operation Holiday
