WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Every year for the past 11 years, Christmas tree growers around the U.S. have been donating Christmas trees to make sure the men and women serving our country know they’re not forgotten during the holidays.

Monday, a tree farm near Wichita loaded up its donations to make Christmas happier for some of our troops.

“Feels like it’s a good way to support our troops,” said Trees for Troops organizer Harry Peckham. “It’s also a good way to promote Christmas trees.”

Peckham said there are about 450 Christmas tree growers across 25 states.  In Kansas, there are nine growers who are participating in the program this year.

About 100 trees from Kansas growers are going into the program this year.  Altogether, about 18,000 trees across the U.S. will be gathered up and sent to troops.

Major support for the project comes from FedEx which picks up the trees and distributes them to more than 60 military bases across the country.
