Wichita businesses could be affected by weekend arctic blast

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW)- That arctic blast headed our way might put a damper on your weekend plans including last minute Christmas shopping.

Some local stores fear the freezing weather could keep customers away, while others think it might boost business.

Jack Frost is planning to make a visit to town, just in time for the last weekend to buy gifts before Christmas.

While some are still preparing to shop till they drop others are choosing to sit this weekend out.

“It can slow things down a little bit,” said Valerie Reimers, Co-Owner, Lucinda’s in Old Town.

Reimers says the winter weather has made a dent in sales before.

“Of course that’s possible, I’m sure it will depend on how bad it is. I never say never until we see the weather actually happen,” Reimers stated.

But, she’s optimistic that the chance of snow and ice won’t hinder people from getting out for last minute purchases.

Across town in the Delano District, Jack Kellogg, owner of Hatman Jack’s is embracing this frigid weather.

“The colder, the better. All my friends think I’m crazy completely. But, the colder the better because it drives business so well,” explained Kellogg.

From western, to beanies and buttoned down ear flap hats, Jack says, he expects customers to flock to his store this weekend.

“When it’s cold, people love to wear hats,” Kellogg stated.

Turning this arctic blast into an early Christmas gift of its own.
