WICHITA, Kansas – About 2,000 people showed up early Sunday evening for the “Get Your Rear in Gear” walk and run. The event was organized by the Colon Cancer Coalition in Wichita.
Although the weather was somewhat soggy, runners and walkers braved the weather at the start of the 5K event.
Proceeds from the event go to spreading awareness about the importance of early detection and fighting colon cancer.
In January, KSN meteorologist Leon Smitherman’s began his own battle with colon cancer. Fortunately for Leon, his cancer was detected early enough to allow him to recover from the disease.
