WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Demonstrators on the Wichita State University campus are joining nationwide protest in the “No Ban, No Wall” peace rally.

It was an impassioned crowd of more than 100 Shockers at WSU, standing with a common goal. Unity.

A series of executive orders recently signed by President Donald Trump has some students speaking out.

“I am totally against the wall. There is a lot of political things going on right now,” said junior Devin Smith.

And joining them were some faculty members, who see the rally as a good platform for students to exercise their rights. Community leader Chad Pickering says the rally gives him a chance to engage students of all backgrounds, and create in his church an environment that can promote change through creating relationships.

“What we want to do as an organization is especially connect with the next generation and come along side them, and empower them, and invest in them, and give them opportunities to be actual change makers,” said Pickering.

For one international student from Iran, Sara Bahrami, family is everything.

“I haven’t seen my dad, my sister and my family for three and a half years,” said Bahrami.

Bahrami said she and other international students pose no threat to the country, and now she fears the temporary travel ban will only cause more uncertainty as to when she can see her family again.

“The only chance we had to visit our family was having them here because the majority of us have a single entry visa. I don’t understand why, why do they punish us?”

The travel ban is only for 90 and that the list consists of seven countries. President Donald Trump has said his goal is to create a more structured vetting process to prevent terrorists into the country.
