Position on the Kansas Budget:
The Kansas budget is too large. We spend more per Kansan than most all of our neighboring states. We need to drastically reduce spending on the administration of the state government and in welfare (Medicaid) spending.
Position on School Funding:
School funding may not feel adequate but we are spending more now then we were 20 years ago with only a marginal increase in outcomes. We need to consolidate leadership positions, HR, and other admin services for school districts. Barely half of school spending went to instruction! We have over 200 school districts in Kansas meaning we pay too many superintendents. Consolidating districts doesn’t mean that schools have to close, we can do things more efficiently in Kansas!
Position on Economy & Taxes:
The state government needs to stop meddling in business. Cut regulations on all business and allow the free market to determine the winners and losers. Taxes need to be cut. Again, let the free market work. Taxes amount to wealth redistribution most of the time, especially at the state level.
Position on Health Care:
Kansas Medicaid spending needs to go down, plain and simple. We have limited resources. I would love to give every Kansan free healthcare, but it just isn’t possible. We need to ensure that Kansans have the right to purchase healthcare.
Position on Immigration:
Immigration is a federal issue. The federal government should enforce current immigration laws.
Highest Priority Issue in Office:
My goal is to decrease Kansas spending by 20% over the next 2 years. It can be done if we focus on positive public policy. Throwing money (thus your taxes) at problems will not fix the problem. We need to empower Kansas citizens to better their communities.
What needs to change in our state government?
We have too many state government employees and spend too much on state administration. For a state that is supposedly “very conservative” we sure spend other people’s money like we are very liberal. We need to return to fiscal conservatism with regard to state spending.
