WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita City Council District 1, District 3, and District 6 are now reporting 100%. Details below:

In a runaway race for Wichita City Council, Incumbent Brandon Johnson has won the race over Myron Ackerman, tallying 3,943 votes to Ackerman’s 1,036 with 28 of 28 precincts reporting.

“It’s about our community because I couldn’t have done any of it without you, and all of those in the community who reach out and pour into us. None of what we have accomplished would have happened without your voice or support or your effort,” said Johnson.

The race for District 3 was extremely close, with Mike Hoheisel unseating Jared Cerullo by a slim margin, just 69 votes. Hoheisel tallied 1,549 to Cerullo’s 1,480, with 25 of 25 precincts reporting.

“I think it is going to come down to mail-in ballots and those are going to come in over the next three days and they have until the end of the day Friday for them all to come in,” said Hoheisel.

Both candidates ran to bring development to south Wichita in the form of better streets and more social services.

“We’ve been going for six weeks straight, knocking doors and doing sign waves, hanging signs in people’s yards. Getting the word out that’s the big thing. getting the word out that south Wichita had been forgotten,” said Cerullo.

In District 6, Maggie Ballard has overtaken Cindy Claycomb, tallying 3,625 votes to 3,014 votes for Claycomb with 24 of 24 precincts reporting.

“I’ve worked really hard to represent everyone, and it looks like they, when I was able to show up for them, they were able to show up for me, and I really appreciate that,” said Ballard.
