The Kapaun Mt. Carmel Crusaders have had the Wichita Southeast Golden Buffaloes number the past five seasons, winning each matchup by 20 points or more.
Tonight was more of the same as the Crusaders took down the Golden Buffaloes 26-3 at Wichita Heights.
The game was close as Kapaun only led by three at halftime.
In the second half, the Crusaders senior quarterback Jack Hacking threw for two touchdowns and ran for another.
Hacking and head coach Dan Adelhardt spoke about the game being a tale of two different halves.
“You know we didn’t execute, i challenged the kids at half time, there’s two things, enthusiasm and execution and we lack both of those in the first half. defense did really sound, defense was tough, kept us in the first half, kept us in the game,” said Adelhardt.
Hacking said the adjustments they made going into the second half were key.
We did really lethargic in the first half and we went back in the locker room at half time, made some adjustments came in the second half, played hard and did what we needed to do to come out and get the win,” said Hacking.
The Crusaders will play their home opener next Friday when they host the Wichita West Pioneers.
As for Wichita Southeast, they will look to bounce back when they travel to play Wichita South.
