After trading up five spots in the second round to shore up their receiving corps, the Kansas City Chiefs finished the night on the defensive side of the ball.
Just seven picks after grabbing wide receiver Mecole Hardman out of Georgia, the Chiefs selected safety Juan Thornhill out of Virginia with the 63rd pick.
Thornhill was a ball hawk for the Cavaliers during his four years at the school.
In three years as a starter at cornerback and safety, Thornhill tallied up 13 interceptions. Six of those interceptions came during his senior season in 2018.
Later on, in the third round, the Chiefs would take defensive tackle Khalen Saunders out of Western Illinois with the 84th pick.
At 6’0, 324lbs., Saunders was able to amass 18 sacks and 34.5 tackles for a loss during his tenure for the Leathernecks.
