LAWRENCE, Kan. (KSNW) – The University of Kansas released a statement today to appeal the NCAA’s punishment of sophomore forward Silvio De Sousa, who was declared ineligible for this season and next because his guardian had received impermissible benefits.

Kansas Athletics released this statement:

“The University of Kansas today submitted its formal appeal on behalf of men’s basketball student-athlete Silvio De Sousa, challenging the two-season penalty De Sousa received from the NCAA for alleged violations that he was unaware of and from which he did not benefit.”

The university will have no further comment on the appeal until the process is complete.
