Senior night at Maize South Thursday night had all the excitement a basketball fan could ask for.
The Lady Mavericks played host to Goddard in what would be a seesaw game until the very end.
As the seconds ticked away in regulation, junior Katie Wagner got the ball at the time of the three point line.
Wagner would drive to the paint and flip a shot up and in with just 1.3 seconds left.
Goddard would be able to get one more desperation shot, but would be unable to sink it, as Maize South got the win 38-36.
“Macy passed it to me and said Katie go and I was like okay, and I just went for it, put my head down, I was like I’m getting to the rim, I heard the student section calling out four, three, and I was just going,” said Wagner.
The win capped off an undefeated, 20-0 season for Maize South as they head into Sub-State next week.
