Maize South senior allowed to play in tonight’s sub-state game after KSHSAA dispute

Local Sports

Zayda Perez, the Maize South senior at the center of a KSHSAA dispute was able to play in the sub-state championship game today.

Maize South Athletic Director Curt Klein told KSN that Perez was allowed to step on the court this evening.

The news comes just two days after the initial ruling from KSHSAA that Perez be ordered to sit out the remainder of the season due to a clerical error. The team was also forced to forfeit the first six games of the season.

School officials say paperwork was amended just before the game in order for Perez to play. However, the school’s six forfeitures will stand.
