Former Masters champion Mike Weir will be in the 156-player Web.Com Tour field June 21-24 for the 29th playing of the Wichita Open at Crestview Country Club in Wichita.

The 48-year-old Canadian left-hander brings PGA TOUR star power to this year’s event. Weir has eight PGA TOUR victories and 15 world-wide wins to his credit. He is best known for winning the 2003 Masters in a sudden-death playoff over Len Mattiace.  At the time, Weir became the first left-hander to win the Masters (Phil Mickelson won the following year to become the second). He is the only Canadian-born player to win at Augusta National.

Weir had close calls at other Major Championships. He had top-5 finishes in successive years, 2003-04, at the U.S. Open, while contending again with a tie for 5th at the 2005 Masters

Weir has represented Canada on six World Cup teams and has participated in five Presidents Cups. A torn ligament in his right elbow in early 2010 curtailed Weir’s career from being even more successful.  His comeback has him playing on the Web.Com Tour this season.  Weir’s best finish this year is a tie for 56th at last week’s Rust-Oleum Championship.

The purse for this year’s Wichita Open is $625,000, with the winner getting $112,000.
