The Wichita State baseball team fell to the Cincinnati Bearcats, 5-1, in the opening game of a three-game American Athletic Conference series Friday, April 26, at Marge Schott Stadium.
The Shockers (20-21, 5-8 American) and Bearcats (20-22, 9-7 American) are scheduled to play game two of the series at 3 p.m. CT (4 p.m. ET) Saturday, April 27.
Sophomore outfielder Hunter Gibson posted a pair of hits, including his fifth homer of the season – a solo shot in the seventh inning, leading Wichita State at the plate. Paxton Wallace and Alex Jackson also tallied a pair of hits in the contest.
Sophomore right-hander Liam Eddy (4-5) took the loss on the mound for WSU after giving up five earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and one walk in seven innings pitched.
Wyatt Stapp, Joey Wiemer, Jace Mercer, Mitch Holding and Jeremy Johnson each compiled two hits, leading Cincinnati offensively.
David Orndorff (3-1) earned the victory for the Bearcats after allowing one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk in seven innings of work.
