The NJCAA Division II volleyball season is set to ramp up.
Before the season officially tips off, some of the best teams got to square off against one another here in Wichita.
The Wichita Sports Forum Kickoff Volleyball Tournament was in full swing Saturday.
The final day of the two day tournament featured six teams, from here in Kansas to Oklahoma and even as far away as Springfield, Illinois.
All the teams that participated are preseason ranked in the top-20, including the defending champions and number one ranked team, Coffeyville Community College.
The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference helped put on the tournament.
Officials with the KJCCC spoke about wanting to pit the best teams together early on in the season.
“That’s the kind of thing we are shooting for, we want the ranked teams playing right at the beginning, and that’s what we go for every year,” said Mark Patrick, Assistant to the Commissioners Office for the KJCCC.
Sean Boston, who works as the Media Assistant for the KJCCC says the tournament gives teams a great opportunity to look at the competition they’ll be facing in the upcoming season.
“The girls like playing here, it’s just a great opportunity that these players are able to see some other teams around the country that come in here and play,” said Boston.
This was the second year for the Wichita Sports Forum Kickoff Volleyball Tournament.
