Wichita Wizards hold first practice

Local Sports

It was back in October that it was announced that semi-pro basketball was coming to the Air Capital.

The team, the Wichita Wizards, a team crafted by owner Marc Creed.

After several tryouts in November and December, the final product hit the hardwood Sunday for their first practice.

At the Wichita Sports Forum, the team, led by head coach Jermaine Brown went through a wide range of drills, as more than two dozen people looked on.

The team is made up of 21 players, 16 of which are from Wichita.

Creed and his General Manager, Larry Dennis, feel this is something that has been missing in Wichita.

“Players haven’t had an opportunity to get looked at, get film, get stats in the city of Wichita, they’ve had to go elsewhere to do that, so it’s great to provide them with an opportunity to do it right here at home.,” said Creed.

The Wizards will play a 14 game season.

Here are some important dates coming up for the Wizards in the near future:

Jan. 19 – MLK Parade

Jan. 27 – “Meet the Wizards”

Feb. 16 – Wichita Wizards Youth Basketball Camp
