Wingnuts sweep AirHogs, win 4-2

Local Sports

The Wichita Wingnuts made it a clean sweep of the Texas AirHogs, winning 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

After putting 18 hits and 15 runs on the AirHogs Saturday, the Wingnuts were able to generate some offense early in the game on Sunday.

In the bottom of the second, John Nester was able to get a hit to drop into shallow right field, past a diving Dillon Thomas.  Nester would end up at third.

Two batters later, Isaiah Aluko chopped one to second and was thrown out at first, but that did allow Nester to come across for the first run of the game.

The AirHogs would tie it up in the top of third, but in the bottom half of the inning, Abel Nieves took Gan Quan deep over the left center field wall for the solo home run, making it 2-1.

It was Nieves second home run of the year.

The Wingnuts homestand will continue Monday, when they play host to the Cleburne Railroaders.
