Nine games into the young American Association of Independent Professional Baseball season and the Wichita Wingnuts sit at 5-4.
They are currently tied for third with the Cleburne Railroaders, the team they played host to Monday night.
The Wingnuts rode a three-game win streak into the series, after sweeping the Texas AirHogs over the weekend.
In the bottom of the first, with two on, Tony Thomas lined one into right field off of Jared Mortensen.
That would score Logan Watkins, putting the Wingnuts up 1-0, which is all they would need to snatch up the win in this game.
Rafael Palmeiro, former big leaguer with the Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers started at first base for the Railroaders.
At age 53, Palmeiro, who hit 569 career home runs over his 20-year major league career, signed with Cleburne earlier this month.
