PRETTY PRAIRIE, Kan. (KSNW) — The KSN Summer Road Trip team visited downtown Pretty Prairie Friday morning, July 16. Thank you to the people who stopped by to see us and say Hi.
Pretty Prairie was established in the 1870s, and it was named for the beautiful scenery in the area.
The population of Pretty Prairie is a bit more than 500. But for four days in July, the town’s population swells by thousands thanks to the Pretty Prairie Rodeo. It is billed as “Kansas’ Largest Night Rodeo,” and it brings in thousands of people. Even the Visit Hutch website mentions it, saying, “The rodeo attracts over 250 top professional cowboys in the nation and 20,000 spectators annually.” This year’s rodeo will be July 21-24.
The rodeo is also a fundraiser that helps the community, including scholarships, the local food bank, EMS and the 4-H.
