Derrick’s Discussion – Summer temperatures brings fire threat

Weather Blog

Starting to feel a little like summer. These summer conditions will continue again tomorrow. But, we will pay a price.  A Red Flag Warning will be in effect for the rest of the day today and again tomorrow. That is because we are very dry and still dealing with the strong winds. The warm temperatures are also aiding to the fire danger across the state.

A few fires have started showing up in Kansas and a huge fire in Oklahoma. The plum of smoke is coming from Harper county where there is a grass fire.

We do cool off a little tonight, but everyone stays dry. Lows fall into the 40’s and 50’s with clear skies.

More summer like temperatures again tomorrow. The winds will come with the warmer temperatures too. Highs get into the mid 80’s. It will be 5-8 degrees warmer than it was today. We still stay dry. This will likely spark more grass fires.

Watching Friday, we bring in cooler temperatures and a winter mix for Northwest Kansas. Looks like some winter weather will be possible. Temperatures look to stay above freezing for Wichita, but we could get some light rain. Possible severe weather East of the State.

Enjoy the warmer temperatures 🙂
